Affordable Medications Scheme

The Affordable Medications Scheme is designed to provide access to medications for patients who otherwise could not afford to purchase it. The goal is provide patients access to their medications to improve their compliance & long term treatment outcomes . The scheme has received $40,000 donation in FY2014/15 & $350,000 for FY2015/16 . The scheme aims to provide access to affordable medications for the most disadvantaged & vulnerable in the community,especially the disabled, elderly & individuals & families on health care cards & concession cards.

The scheme provides a subsidy to patients that are recommended by their GP . Once the medications have dispensed & collected, the Association pays to cost directly to the dispensing pharmacy.

How does it Work?

The Affordable Medications Scheme has a funding arrangement with a local participating pharmacy, where the Association guarantees that it pay for the medication costs of patient that have been recommended by their GP or charity. The pharmacy charges the patient the normal price that the patient is entitled to. The pharmacy charges are placed on account and payed off by the Association.

How do I Qualify to access the Affordable Medications Scheme?

To access the scheme you must see your local GP, health professional or charity and have them endorse the referral form to the Association. Then present the stamped form to the local participating pharmacy to receive your medications . Once the pharmacy accepts the stamped referral and provides you with your medication, there are no other obligations or charges for you to pay.
